Practice Nurses
We have 5 Practice Nurses under the leadership of Lynn Franks.
They run surgeries daily, and can be consulted for nursing problems such as wound dressings,
stitch removal, ear syringing and blood pressure checks. They also give injections and immunisations including a full range of travel vaccinations.
The Nursing team also help in the monitoring of chronic conditions such as Asthma, COPD, Diabetes, Ischaemic Heart Disease, Chronic Kidney Disease and High Blood Pressure. They are also able to give contraceptive advice and can arrange for emergency contraception ('Morning After pill'). This service is also available from the Minor Injuries Unit at Selby War Memorial Hospital or your local pharmacy.
Our Health Care Assistant is able to do blood pressure checks, heart tracings [ECG] and take blood from patients unable to attend Selby War Memorial Hospital.
District Nurses
We have a full complement of District Nurses working in a team under Rosemarie Downes. They attend patients too ill to come to the surgery, and work closely with the Practice Nurses.
They are based at the surgery and, for non-urgent problems, they can be contacted on 01904 627635.
Health Visitors
We have a team of experienced Health Visitors and are based at the surgery.
The Health Visitors can give information and support on all aspects of children under 5's health, e.g. hearing, speech, vision referrals, behaviour issues, breastfeeding, toilet training etc. The team offer child development reviews & well baby clinics (1.30-3.00 pm - please check in at reception on arrival).
They are based at the surgery; for non-urgent problems they can be contacted on 01904724397, where a message can be left.
The Health Visitors cover a specific geographical area and may therefore not be able to visit all patients registered at Posterngate - please call 01904724397 for any queries.
It would be helpful if you can remember to bring your child’s red book in order that it can be completed.

Community Midwives
Our experienced midwives can provide all aspects of maternity care. They run Antenatal clinics in the surgery and also have Antenatal, Aqua- Natal and Parentcraft Classes at other times. They can be contacted via York District Hospital on 01904 453503.
Primary Care Worker
We have a counsellor and link worker who specialise in providing help and support to patients with mental health problems, often meaning that drug therapy can be avoided.
Administrative Staff
Administrative Manager
Caroline Waller has worked at the Practice for over 25 years. She is responsible for the running some aspects of the Practice Office, as well as overseeing the team who enter data onto patient records.
Office Manager
Angela McDonnell has day to day charge of the main practice office, overseeing the appointment system, ensuring we meet the demands placed upon the service.
Secretaries
Our secretaries all work hard typing letters, liaising with hospitals, and undertaking work to ensure our recall systems work satisfactorily. They are responsible for sending out insurance reports and other correspondence.
Receptionists
Our receptionists have a demanding job trying to ensure the smooth running of the practice whilst trying to keep patients satisfied, but not overloading the clinical staff.
They are here to help you, and if they do ask for details of your problem, this is merely to assist the doctors and nurses in organising their available time to give priority to urgent cases. Some enquiries may take a little longer than others to resolve so please be patient and the receptionists will do their best to deal with you as quickly as possible.
Attached Staff
We have some attached staff attending the Practice.
Patients usually require a referral from the GPs or the Nurses to see these members.
